About the project

WATCH THE ARTS DISTRICT BEGIN IN A STUDIO

The Gold Coast has a new destination for Contemporary Art. The Gold Coast Arts District is a masterpiece in the making; one giant canvas that re-imagines how we live and work and view our environment.

Here art will spill from the traditional gallery setting out into the public arena; the air will be purified by an enormous living artwork and creative industries can set up shop. With the opening of St. Thomas Studio, it has already begun.

A NEW DESTINATION FOR CONTEMPORARY ART

Every great idea has its first steps. The exhibitions, events with artists and pop-up shows taking place at St. Thomas Studio are paving the way for the Gold Coast Arts District.

Already the works of celebrated artists are on the walls of The Studio. The launch exhibition featured works by Loretta Lizzio, Anne Smerdon, Tiffany Atkin, Laura Strange, Nicholas Chalmers, Claudio Kirac, Leah Bartholomew, Mark Wilson, Joel Rea, Chris Humphries and Brendon Smith.

Renowned Gold Coast artist Claudio Kirac is The Studio’s first Artist In Residence. His workplace will thrive at the core of the burgeoning Arts District.

A PLACE WHERE ART COMES TO LIFE

St. Thomas Place is an international design collaboration between Miami Architect Ludwig Fontalvo-Abello of Studio LFA and world acclaimed French botanist, Patrick Blanc, whose Vertical Gardens are revolutionising the use of green space in the environment.

When the built structure of St. Thomas Place takes its place in the Gold Coast Arts District alongside St. Thomas Studio, the quantity and quality of hanging, displaying, showing and growing space available to artists and the creative industries on the Gold Coast is set to explode, creating a must-see destination in the process.

INSPIRATION LIVES HERE

Creative industries on the Gold Coast contribute up to $3.4 billion to Queensland’s economy. There are over 1000 creative businesses here, actively employing 67,000 Queenslanders per year in Film & Television, Production, Writing, Publishing and Print Media, Design, Architecture, Advertising and Graphic Design.

St. Thomas Studio, St. Thomas Place and the new Gold Coast Arts District provide the creative community with an important new stage.

In turn, the exhibitions, creative outlets and promenades of the area will showcase a global live-work-relax atmosphere with far reaching appeal.
